ok so l found2000 silver bmw m5 with 74295 miles on it has all its service records .. and is in immaculate condition the dealer is asking 17,500 for it... l really love this car iv heard they are very reliable if kept up to maintenance l dint plan on abusing it if l get it,oil changes fluid flushes doneon schedule. l also have a mechanic that can change the clutch for me when it is needed, so l wont have to worry about bmw's, crazy service fees, yes l know it has a v8 but its a manual which will help me save gas and l dint plan on torching the throttle so gas well last me a fair amount of time due to my local daily commuting, so if you can help me make a decision with your suggestions l will greatly appreciate it...thanks

l always try to look at value, what else could l buy for the same
money? Its gonna be 9 years old, you could find a very reliable
Honda, Nissan, newer with lower miles. What will it be worth
a year from now? Premium gas? M5 insurance?
Good luck

l guess that is a pretty good price. Sounds kind of pricey that is because BMW is holds their value.

The link below shows what the price would really go for:)

If you have to worry about money on repairs or even skimping on them then you can not afford this car. It is in good condition now but will you be able to keep it that way?

If you're really hellbent on buying this car make sure you beat the dealer up on the price. Start at 14 grand for the car. Economy is in a rough place right now and cars are sitting and many are getting repossessed. This M5 is not special.

u have a 6 speed & 400 horsepower... just try staying out of the throttle. lol. everything on these cars is difficult to repair & expensive. biggest concern is... have the previous oil changes been done at correct time & was the correct oil used. incorrect oil leads to these cars building up excess carbon on the pistons/combustion chambers which means high nox gases when smogging & that means no passing smog.
bmw book time calls for 40-50 hours to do a head job. l would make sure the emissions gases r not borderlining, or u will probably be lookin at a headache. other than that, these cars r awesome, & u can even modify the z4 shift stick to fit in the m5 , which makes it a short throw. & its a lot less expensive than a short throw kit. u would probably have to have someone who knew what they were doing so that tho.

if you say you are going to stay off the throttle, l do not see the point of buying a performance sedan. l would recomend a 528i if you want to stay with BMW

l have a close friend who bought this same car. A 2000 M5 right off the showroom floor. It is a fantastic car with a very powerful engine. Please do u homework before ur get yourself into buying this M5. Like any BMW, in order to keep it on the road, the servicing is very important. You can not skip anything on service. You had mentioned that the car is in great condition, but having all the service records will help u decide.

These r my thoughts (I've looked into buying an M5 myself):

1) Regardless on the current condition, the future services will be very, very expensive. l was told my the BMW tech that the engine along was in the area of $40,000. Keeping this engine running well, will require proper services. My advice. BMW service only, if possible.

2) Is this r worth it? Only u can answer that. Yes, it is a very good M car. One of the best. You really need to consider the cost of keeping it past 100,000 miles & beyond. My guess is that u would like to do that & much more.

Also keep in mind that people who buy M series BMWs, do not drive it like granny. You r buying this car for the performance. Right? Do u thin the past owner did not drive it hard. l do not think l could baby this car. With the 5 liter power monster, this is one hell of a car.

Please do not get me wrong, this is a very good, no. great car! l just want to help u make a good decision. If this was a non M car, the same things do apply in terms of proper servicing. But, this M5, u need to add the cost of an average BMW & times it by 5.

If u have the resources, l see no reason to not buy it. But, this is already 8 years old. Keep in mind that most people will sell their car right before a major service. Also, l like to see the car with the oil & dirt. A clean car can hide many problems. Why do u thing dealers like to show the car after it was detailed. l always ask to see the car before they clean it.

l hope this helps. If this does not work out, keep looking & try to find something newer (even if u have to wait for it).
