Hi. my 1999 BMW(E39) is fitted with a radio which l have disconnected and now when l turn it on it says phone on the display. And the radio and cd aren’t working anymore. How do l enter the key code or fix this problem?

l took out a radio on a 1997 528i its same car as your almost. the radio worked fine l didnt need a code. however if you do need a code the only way may be to go to bmw.

So does not anyone keep their manuals anymore, Look thru that to see if the other owners wrote anything down, otherwise take ti to the dealer and they can get the code for you then write it down as you will pay for it.
