Ok, l have a 1995 BMW 525i.The drivers seat and passenger seat both recline crooked.They both move up, down, forward, back just fine.. but when l try to adjust the backrest part of the seat backward, it reclines crooked so I am leaning into the door and its very unconfortable.The passenger seat does the same exact thing but the opposite way.Anyway.. You know how some people like to lean their seat back so their not sitting straight up.. well l cant do that becase of this problem :( it really sucks.l had to drive 4 hours the other day and it killed my back sitting at a 90 degree angle the whole time.

Can anyone please tell me whats wrong?

The backrest tilt adjustment cables have elongated unevenly left to right or right to left on both front seats.
These adjustment cables work like bowden cables (similar to brake cables of bicycles, wherein u loosen or tighten the ends of the sheath or tubing).
But in this case, the correction is to cut the cable of the side that is delayed in adjusting (the one that gets left behind) by approximately 5/8 of an inch. Do not cut the tube. Cut instead the squarish cable inside the tube..
This is not an easy job for a DIY but is not rocket science. You may have to remove the bolts holding the seats to the floor & tilt them forward to access the backrest adjusting motor & cut the proper
cable to size.

If its not the cables it may be the gear boxes at the hinges have come apart from the screws backing out.
