cheapest and best is not the same.

Used cars are cheaper in areas where cars do not last as long due to the weather and road conditions. Taxes also play a factor, but if you buy a car in a different state you still have to pay taxes on it in your own state, possibly in addition to what you paid in the state you bought it.

Texas after the floods. l do not think Louisiana would get flooded again anytime soon.

You may want to find an auto auction that only licensed dealers can buy from.

l live in Pennsylvania. There is a giant auto auction called Manheim Auto Auction. Every Wed u see thousands of BMW is come through. There r a bunch of dealers/members that will charge u around $500 to take u in there. You pick the car(s) u want & they bid on them for you. Bottom line - u get the car what the dealer gets it for (plus their fee of course).

Back in 2003 l got a 2000 528i that just came off of lease. It was in immaculate condition. l paid less than $20,000 while most used car dealers were selling them for around $27,000.

Auctions, definitely. Forget going across state lines, just do not buy in New York! (Everything is more expensive here.)

People love to buy status items they can not afford. It is all about the name. And when Middle Class Mike can not afford his payments anymore, the car is seized and then made available at an auction for a serious discount. My favorite mechanic bought a three year old 5-series for $12,000.
