Am l creating an illusion by driving this car?
l was very into these cars when l was younger. but l came to realize that they can be distracting to the my people surrounding me. l dont wanna let go of my dreams but l would rather not be the illusion.

Are u referring to how u may be treated during the process? l suggest u do ur research online (including ur current trade in values etc.. & current invoices & rebates). Call the dealership ahead of time for an appointment . The decent salespeople r usually organized (and busy) - not waiting out on the lot for the next ''victim''. The busier & more motivated the salesperson the better chances u will have a getting a good deal. The Sales Managers will favor these sales people & offer them more flexibility when dealing with customers. Usually they r motivated by ''volume'' so they wont try to rake u over the coals. Stay loyal to this salesperson throughout the buying process (test drive to delivery) & be honest with them . Present them with the invoice & tell them what u think is a fair profit for them to make over the invoice. Understand because u r buying from invoice ur car will have to be valued at the wholesale value (go to Edmunds for details) . Remember its easier to deal from invoice than retail - less confusing & the easier u make it for the dealership the better u will be treated. Car buying does not have to be degrading if u come armed with an idea of what u want to testdrive & buy , also note if there is a plentiful supply of that model the better chance u will have some flexiblity in negotiations vs a rare model that is limited (Ie Westminster Edition Range Rover. ) . No No No. Buy the BMW, SOme of these cars around 45k can put a decent Porsche up for a fight. My only neg. is the 323i. The car is engine to tranny is so far out of proportion. You have to slam the gas before you dump the clutch.

l have a x5 and my wife has a 535xi, and yesterday l purchased a 328i for my son. Love the BMW is you need to care about yourself and not about other people. BMW aka the ultimate driving machine.

No, l will tell you what an illusion is. An illusion is when you buy a Honda Civic hatchback for $500, then put on a $400 body kit, a $100 55 inch aluminum wing, $200 ''racing rims and spray paint your interior. That is trying to give the illusion of a fast, exotic car. Buying a BMW shows that you have good taste in cars, and you want to get the Ultimate Driving experience, day in, and day out. What consideration & insight u have. It is almost a religious question raised in this forum, which is very unusual. This is how l read ur question about the purchase of a BMW.

l must say, l do not know who ur people r & as a result this so called ''illusion'' that could be created. However, if we were to assume ur people r Jewish in faith, this takes on a different tone. BMW was the engines that powered Hitler is Luftwaffe Air Force in World War II. In this case Paul is words ring true about offending ur brother. Assuming that the Jewish Holacaust survivors or close kin may view this as an insult to ur people.

Besides this point, l do not see that driving a BMW is no more degrading than driving any other car. It has to do with how u carry yourself & how it is equipped. You can have the nicest BMW made, but if it is ''pimped'' out it is degrading to the marque as well as to the crafted image of BMW being a German Head of State Automobile, a precision crafted vehicle that caters to the elite.

It is up to u to craft ur image & define yourself. The car never makes the person, the person makes what ever they r associated with, weather graduate, professional, Apostle or the owner of a BMW.

If you're buying it for the looks then yes. If you want it because you want to drive a sports car, then no.

Having owned two preowned BMW here is my 2 cents:

BMWs are not worth the money when you buy them brand new because they come at a huge premium. Certified Pre owned is a better idea.

If you buy it for the fun of driving it is not degrading. But if you buy it for the facelift it brings then it is degrading
