l see a bunch of models (335, 328, 325, 335xi) and not l am not sure which one is a v6 and which are 4 cylinder models. So l would like a breakdown of model numbers against its engine size(v6, v4) and their power in hp.

All the models you named were 6 cylinders. Not sure of actual hp but the 335 model would be the highest in hp. The last two numbers will give you the liters of the car. The 3.5 turbo model puts out 300hp puts out

Based on ur question, l am assuming that u r looking at buying a BMW. l have owned BMWs & others & I've learned a few things along the way. You asked about the breakdown of the power (assuming HP) for each of the 3 series. You did not mention what year, but l will assume it is the current version. All of the 3 series r in-line 6's, they stopped making 4 cylinders long ago. The current 328 is a 3 liter, but they named it that way to for marketing reasons. Both 328 & 330 have the same 3 liter engine, but the 330 has more standard equipment than the base 328. The 2006 325 is now called the 328 & has the same 3 liter engine. l have to clear this up. Prior to 2006 (the new body style), the 325 was a 2.5 liter, inline 6. Most of the lineup is this inline 6.

Now the 335i is the same 3 liter, in-line 6, but with a twin turbo that adds boost (HP) & this is why they named it 335i. Naturally, the added turbo boost will make more horse power & it is currently the most power u can get on a factory 3 series. However, the new M# is the most powerful M3 ever made. This new M3 has a 4 liter 8 cylinder that is a break from the past 3 series that were mostly 6's.

Regarding the power breakdown, l know that u can get that from the BMW site so l will not get into that. The reason being is that l think many of the manufacturers has used the HP as a measurement on the performance of the car. Yes, HP is important. If u have driven a BMW, u will notice the it feels like it has power. Yes, BMW engines r very good & built for performance, but this is not the entire picture. How the car gets that power to the wheels is more important. For example, the BMW engine has a variable timing on the piston valve (VANOS) making the power band more usable. Many smaller engines needs to be at a higher RMP to get the HP that the manufacture states. Usable power. The BMW has power from a lower RPM & keeps on pulling as the RPM gets higher. This is why the BMW feels like it has so much power. Try driving a Lexus IS 350 ( l had owned one so l know), it has over 300hp, but the BMW is lower & yet it feels like it has more power. It is all in the how the power gets to the wheels. The Lexus transmission is not the same as the BMW. Power is also affected by the computer. My point? Do not get sold on just HP that the manufacturers want u to believe. It the entire package. It all what u want in a car. You might like the Lexus because it is softer & yet it has power. The BMW is more a drivers car & is build for power that handling. Getting both in the car is not easy. If that was the case, BMW would not have such a loyal following.

Chris H has said it the best. The 335 has a twin turbo engine pumping out 300hp and 300 ft lbs of torque while 328 is naturally aspirated engine pumps out 230hp and 200 ft lbs of torque.
