it starts good butyou put it on drive and it goes on second gear l all ready didi a tune up but nothing please help me.
its automatic and im not putting it on second ,i put it in drive and it does that

l assume it is an automatic. Are you sure you are not putting the car in 2nd gear instead of Drive?

Check or do the following in sequence:
a) check the cable from the gear selector (shifter) at its attachment point to the transmission on the left side of the transmission to see if it is properly connected.
b) if properly connected, check to see if all gear shift positions r being recognized & accessed by the shifter when u move it. if not
then the gear shifter is bad & should be replaced. l suspect ur car falls in this category if the drive position could not be accessed or selected. It is not if u r able to select drive, but for whatever reason the tranny then goes to 2nd. That it does not shift bodes ill.
But a thorough check of the gear selector is needed.
c) if the shifter is OK, check if the transmission oil level is normal & the oil is not black or smells burnt. Top-off if lacking. Replace transmission if oil is black or burnt.
d) if the oil is OK, have the EGS (trans control module) re-programmed.
e) if after programming, it is still the same, replace the transmission.

Will it shift out of second? any dash lights?

Actually its 3rd gear if the transmission computer has gone into limp mode. You can get lucky if only the selector shift sensor is bad. There is a shift cable but it does nothing much other then engage the parking pawl. The car uses input for the shift selector unit located inside the car just below the shifter. At times when l am working on this part l have actually used the shift selector unit to drive it around the shop without touching the shift lever. To try to make this more simple u could actually not even have a shift lever & could wire up buttons on the dash to change gears as long as u have a good parking brake u could get away with no physical shifter..

Sometimes water can get into the electrical plug at the side of the transmission & cause this.
l covered basics but rarely is it anything else besides a worn out transmission..
